Georgetown “Ask a Professor” series features DeNardis/Sheehan collaboration on AI ethics and health care

This month, Georgetown’s popular “Ask a Professor” series features Laura DeNardis, Inaugural Endowed Chair in Technology, Ethics, and Society and Director of the Center for Digital Ethics, and Myles Sheehan, SJ, MD, David Lauler Chair in Catholic Health Care Ethics and Director of the Pellegrino Center for Clinical Bioethics. In response to recent news about the ability of AI to bioengineer live viruses, Drs. DeNardis and Sheehan explored emergent ethical questions in the increasingly prevalent intersection of AI and health care.

Almost everything we do in healthcare has the potential for harm, whether it is an adverse reaction to a medication or a complication from a difficult surgery. Balancing risks and benefits is always a difficult calculus.
